My Story

I was a single Mom for over 10 years. My daughter is grown now, but I realized that my experiences as a single Mom might be able to help others. I grew not just emotionally, but Financially. I learned about Finance mostly because I struggled to make ends meet for years. This is my story.

I married when I was 20 years old. Thankfully I had a 2 year degree in Laboratory Science. My daughter Rebecca arrived and life was wonderful for a while. My husband quit his landscaping business very soon after and I found myself having to clean houses to make ends meet. I eventually started working in a Medical Laboratory to get benefits. I worked while my husband stayed home with my daughter. This was not the life I had envisioned. Eventually he refused to work and we separated and later divorced. I struggled financially for more years than I care to remember. I realized that I wasn't broke because I was stupid, I just did not have any financial education. I spent years learning about investing. I started putting $50 a month into my 401K. My employer matched the $50 and eventually I increased the amount every time I got a raise. I found myself slowly climbing out of the financial hole I had been in, and things started to get better. My daughter grew up and got married. She is doing very well. I eventually got married to a wonderful man, got a much better job and have been financially secure for years. I believe that my many years struggling financially have benefited me. I changed my lifelong habits and slowly turned my life around for the better. My goal is to share my knowledge and mistakes with others to help them become financially independent.
